Vintage Chest of Drawer Facelift

Things have been pretty busy around here, can't believe it's already February. I'll elaborate more on what's been keeping me so busy in a future post, but for today I wanted to share this sturdy dresser that just got a facelift. 

Nothing flashy on this guy, just a classic style and timeless color palette. I love the grey and brown tones together on this guy, so much so that I recently painted my entry, living room and kitchen in this very grey. {and I just think it looks fab with my natural hardwood floors}

The color is Annie Sloan French Linen and the top was taken back to the raw wood and then sealed with dark wax...love that sheen!

Petite Buffet Makeover {French Linen}

Full speed into the week ahead and just really wanted to share this little buffet that I made over this past weekend.

When I picked this girl up, I fell immediately in love with the simplicity of the piece and the nice clean lines. Not to mention that it is only 4' long...I never find them this size!

But once I got home with my new treasure, it was easy to see that it had been through many repairs and refreshes in it's life...none of which appeared to have been executed with much care.

So we glued, clamped and scrapped away the damaged veneer.

I tossed the dated hardware and sought out something with more flair.

A couple coats of Annie Sloan French Linen with liberal sanding between coats and this little buffet was starting to look so darn cute.

Antique Buffet {Repurposed}

When we brought this buffet home I was thrilled at the find and thought I would do some quick cosmetic work and get painting.

Easy, right?

Not so quick, it wasn't going to be that easy!

To my surprise {and complete frustration}, the drawers that came with it were so badly damaged and warped that once I removed them...they were never ever going to go back into place! Even though I was disappointed that they weren't functioning {and that we failed to realize this before we purchased it}, this was still a really gorgeous piece with great bones so I needed to repurpose it and give it a new look! I've been down this road many times before and knew I had options. So without hesitation, I tossed the drawers and grabbed some wood and converted the spaces into some shelves.

I've staged it with some fun baskets that would be great for storing goodies, but you could also use this as a media stand or to store linens in a hallway.

I'm very pleased with the completed project, I hope you like it as much as I do!

Vintage Stanley Buffet

An early Sunday morning jaunt resulted in this vintage buffet rescue.

 

The bones on this guy were in great condition, just years of wear showing on the outside.

I painted the body in French Linen and aged it with a clear and dark wax combo. After cleaning up the top {which was covered in scratches}, I gave it a fresh coat of stain {I custom mix my stain to get the desired color}. The wood grain is just stunning now that you an actually see it! And with three coats of poly, it's ready for years of use!

 The original hardware was throwing me for a loop and I couldn't decide if I should change it out or not. But once I saw it all complete I really really like how the brass pops off the grey.

Tables Galore

In the last month I've brought home no less then 15 tables: side tables, end tables and nightstands etc. It's like everywhere I look there is another darling table that needs a makeover...so I scoop them up and haul them home. Consequently, I have them stacked high in the barn and garage, just waiting their turn!

Here are a cute pair of end tables finished in french linen. I left the drawers natural so you can see the pretty inlay.

I was also able to get this side table done over the weekend. It is finished in a nice bright antibes green and dark wax...and that drawer pull is so cool!

 

I have so many more nice tables to work on in the upcoming weeks, the hard part is figuring out which one to work on next and what color to paint it!! Decisions. Decisions.

Dapper Drexel Bedroom Set

I thought long and hard about this post...how would I best describe this pair so that you would clearly understand how stunning this dresser and nightstand are in person.

I brainstormed some words:

stylish

sexy

awesome {ugh, I use this too much}

classy

handsome

charming

dandy

Dapper, yep, that's the word!

This is the Dapper Drexel Set. 

 

As I was tossing around colorway ideas, I kept coming back to a two tone color pallet for this set. I haven't done a two tone chest of drawers in awhile {I think it's been almost a year} and I was drooling as I thought how outrageous these two would look!

This time around I used a custom mix of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint to come up with a nice medium grey. Because the drawers were so scratched up, I sanded them down and gave them a fresh coat of stain and satin poly.

Finding Silver Pennies

Vanity + Dresser Set

I rarely get a sweet set like this dresser and vanity to makeover...so it made perfect sense to push some other projects to the back burner and work these two over pronto!

 

I opted for a more mature and classic color pallet for this set. French Linen. It's a warm, cozy, creamy grey. I'm smitten by how well the detailing pops with the light distressing and dark wax.

After sanding the tops, I stained them with Provincial stain and sealed them with wipe on satin poly. {I love the old world look you get from the wipe on poly, it's not too heavy just enough to offer protection} Finally, I lined the drawers with a coordinating patterned fabric. {I love the little surprise that you get when you open the drawers and see the love birds}

Table for Four

An early morning Craigslist run, resulted in this find. We were too late to pick up the FREE buffet that had been advertised, but we stumbled upon this gem at a neighboring garage sale.

 

It wasn't in very good shape with its bad veneer and wobbly base, but it's such a classic style and a super sturdy number that when I looked it over for the third time I knew I just had to have it!

I painted it in old white and then french linen, distressed it thoroughly and then hit it with a dark Kona stain. To ensure it could stand a beating from any busy family, I gave it a couple coats of poly. 

 I like how well it pairs with these mismatched wood chairs.

The finish turned out really great, almost looks concrete. It's not, but it's as heavy as concrete!

 The distressing is really random but intentional.

 Look at that stocky base---and those scrolled feet!

 I picked up this cute pumpkin {and a bunch of other stuff} at TJ Max over my lunch break today. Sometimes I just need some retail therapy to get me through the day. This session only cost me $100! {you all do this too, right?}
