Refreshed Eastlake Dresser

A few years ago I came across about six small dressers at an Estate sale. I didn't dare pass them up so I grab them all, hauled them home and have been storing them in the barn ever since.

I've finally made my way {through the maze of furniture and lumber in the barn} to them a few weeks ago and started their makeovers, one at a time. This Eastlake number was one of the first pieces to get picked.

After replacing all the bottoms to the drawers and removing the THICK layers of varnish from the top, I painted the body in a custom mix of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and finished with wax. The hardware was missing from this piece when I got it so I used these brass pulls that I salvaged from a previous makeover.

And a little peek into my setup at the shop this week...I forgot to take more pictures so this is all I have to share.

Thanks for swinging through!

Antique Buffet {Repurposed}

When we brought this buffet home I was thrilled at the find and thought I would do some quick cosmetic work and get painting.

Easy, right?

Not so quick, it wasn't going to be that easy!

To my surprise {and complete frustration}, the drawers that came with it were so badly damaged and warped that once I removed them...they were never ever going to go back into place! Even though I was disappointed that they weren't functioning {and that we failed to realize this before we purchased it}, this was still a really gorgeous piece with great bones so I needed to repurpose it and give it a new look! I've been down this road many times before and knew I had options. So without hesitation, I tossed the drawers and grabbed some wood and converted the spaces into some shelves.

I've staged it with some fun baskets that would be great for storing goodies, but you could also use this as a media stand or to store linens in a hallway.

I'm very pleased with the completed project, I hope you like it as much as I do!

Finished with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, French Linen.

Thanks for taking a look! Enjoy your Sunday!

Antique Wash Stand {Before and After}

I just wrapped up this antique wash stand for a customer. I was asked to paint the body navy blue, refinish the top and refresh the hardware.

So into the shop I went and here is the before and after!

As you can probably tell by now, I prefer to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint as my product of choice but ASCP doesn't come premixed in a true navy. However, you can mix any of the standard colors to create a nice rich navy. I created this velvety blue by combining Napoleonic and Barcelona. {I'm really pleased with the depth of the color, it turned out better then I ever imagined} I did use dark wax to seal the paint and deepen the look some more.

Once I had the top stripped down, I stained it with a special mix of stain {seems like the colors right out of the can are never quite what I need for the project so I always mix} and sealed it with a couple coats of dark wax.

The hardware got an update as well and is looking stunning in a new gold metallic finish.

I hope you like the finished look of this project as much as I do...this is certainly one of my favorite color combos!

Thanks for dropping by!

Duck Egg Buffet Refresh

You would never believe how filthy this buffet was when I got it. Layers upon layers of yuck! I spent quite a bit of time cleaning{see my TIP below on how to clean hardware}, stripping and reinforcing everything.

I have done so many dark colored buffets lately that I knew I wanted a lighter color, but not white or cream. Duck Egg seems to be one of my favorite Annie Sloan colors right now so I decided to give it a try. I think the soft blue, dark wax and warm brown stain compliment the piece really well.

Below are some more pictures and a tip on how to clean old dirty hardware.

HOW TO CLEAN HARDWARE
{not sure exactly where I ever learned this process but highly likely it came from Pinterest}
Place your old hardware in a saucepan with 2c of hot water, 1/4c of vinegar and 1tsp of salt. Bring to a rolling boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer for 20 minutes. You will be shocked at how much grime comes off. Carefully drain the water off and lightly scrub the hardware with some dish soap and a sponge. Viola!
