Reclaimed + Repurposed Granary Roof Planks

We were incredibly fortunate to come across some beautiful reclaimed lumber last fall. These amazing boards are reclaimed roof planks from a local Minnesota farm, specifically from the granary that was being torn down.

I get so excited {almost giddy} about the character, grain and history of reclaimed lumber. I always envision the boards when they were new and all the labor that went into constructing the structures that they would call home. And then I think about all the storms that they weathered, the brutal snow storms and the intense Minnesota thunder and lighting shows. I'm so glad that we are able to use these boards for another purpose now, it would really be a shame to have seen these beauties burned or sent to the dump.

We have made a few different pieces with these boards as of late, a couple tables and a few signs. The character and color of this wood is simply stunning! {even more so in person}

Here is a 5-foot coffee table/media stand that we just finished with the reclaimed planks.

{I actually found the wire baskets a few months ago and bought them with the intent of building a table that they would fit perfectly under}

This table matches the side tables that we finished a week ago. You can see those tables here.

A closer look at all that character! I lightly sanded away all the rough spots so that the surface is smooth to the touch, while still maintaining the fantastic patina.

Here is a custom sign that I recently had the pleasure of creating for a customer, I used the same roof planks on this piece too. I can't get enough of the contrasting metal and warm chocolate wood tones.

Navy Blue Empire Dresser and Industrial Rustic Tables

I've got a two part post for you all this morning.

Empire Chest of Drawers

Holy cow, everything that could go wrong with a project, went wrong with this dresser!! Sorta like a bad Monday! Haha! Soon after I started the repair work, I was already wishing I would have never started...

I removed the drawers and hardware 

and started gluing, clamping, filling, sanding....Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

After several days of repair, this guy was as sturdy and structurally sound as he was when he was new. And at last, I was to a point that I could start painting. Halleluiah!

I mixed a custom navy blue concoction and sealed it with dark wax. I replaced the mismatched wooden knobs with new cream colored ceramic ones. They really pop off that dark navy and give it a fresh modern feel.

Those two top drawers with their curvy shape...and the old keyholes with all their tarnished patina. {heart throb}

I walked away from this dresser more then a few times before actually wrapping it up.

{glad I'm too stubborn to give up} To say that I'm thrilled with the final product would be an understatement. I'm definitely smitten by this handsome devil!

Industrial Rustic Side Tables 

Then there were these two fantastic industrial rustic tables.

Reclaimed wood on the top and the bottom shelf complete with the added character of the nail holes and patina. We've cleaned, sanded and sealed the wood for a beautiful finish.  

These boards are just stunning, really some of my favorite reclaimed wood that we've come across. The warmth of the boards is just amazing. I've seen a lot of reclaimed looking tables in the stores and there is no comparing the wood on those tables to these. Something about the authenticity of the real deal that reproductions simply can't match.

The custom frames are welded to perfection and sealed with clear coat to prevent rusting.

{we mount rubber feet to the bottoms of all our tables to help prevent any scratches to your floors}

I have visions of someone pushing these guys together and using them as a big coffee table or book ending their sofa. We are just finishing a matching coffee table that I will be posting in a few days...it's big and equally as beautiful as these side tables.

Valentine's weekend.

~Time to express your love to those that you care most about~

...UGH...

This is one of my least favorite holidays. Don't get me wrong: I LOVE chocolates, I LOVE presents and I LOVE my husband! But the pressure...oh the pressure! I can never think of anything to get my man. I usually pickup a Choco Love bar at the grocery store and call it good. And in return, I prefer a low key night at home, in my jammies, making a yummy dinner, enjoying a glass of wine and watching a movie.

This probably makes me out to be a dud {and maybe I am} but I'm just being honest. I prefer to get flowers on a random day in July and I like to give a gift on an off day during the year. I want to surprise someone when they are least likely to expect it. A little gesture that brightens their day, makes them feel special and shows them how important they are to me.

Thanks for listening to my thoughts, now let me show you what I've been working on...

I've been making these industrial signs now since last fall. This particular one is a sweet message that is certainly timely for the holiday {and everyday throughout the year}.

I tried the best I could to save the bottom drawer on this dresser, but it was just too far gone. But fret not, it's just as wonderful with the new shelf that allows the flexibility to become an entertainment center or a cute place for some baskets. The top has been stripped down and refinished in a chocolate brown stain. For the body I used French Linen and sealed it with dark wax.

Vintage Chest of Drawer Facelift

Things have been pretty busy around here, can't believe it's already February. I'll elaborate more on what's been keeping me so busy in a future post, but for today I wanted to share this sturdy dresser that just got a facelift. 

Nothing flashy on this guy, just a classic style and timeless color palette. I love the grey and brown tones together on this guy, so much so that I recently painted my entry, living room and kitchen in this very grey. {and I just think it looks fab with my natural hardwood floors}

The color is Annie Sloan French Linen and the top was taken back to the raw wood and then sealed with dark wax...love that sheen!
