Blue Bench {Primitive-esque}

I've been known to pick up free furniture off the side of the road and occasionally pluck some really nice pieces out of dumpsters. Well...that's how this story begins as well. This solid wood bench was in the dumpster on Friday and is sportin' a great new look on Monday!

I tighten the legs up, sanded in down and then broke out the paint brush! I hit s few spots with some intentional white undertones, then a liberal coat of Aubusson ASCP, an aggressive sanding and some antiquing---now you have an updated, solid, primitive looking bench for your entry, porch, hallway or bedroom.

Antique Chest of Drawers {Soft Duck Egg Blue + Rich Chocolate}

 

And so the story begins with this sweet chest of drawers. The top of this dresser was in amazing shape and needed to be left in its natural state to show how strong and solid she was throughout, but the soft blue body shows the depth of character I imagine this girl to have. Sappy I know, but honestly when I work on these pieces I can only imagine the stories they could tell...

Before

 The dark walnut stained top sets off the original hardware beautifully. The body is finished in ASCP Duck Egg {my new favorite}, lightly distressed and antiqued with clear and dark wax.

She has been transformed into a charming chest of drawers.

The detailing on the wood and hardware are so fitting for this lady.

 More cute detailing on the bottom just in case it wasn't already ADORABLE enough.

And finally, they say beauty is only skin deep, but this girl is lovely through and through!

White Distressed Bookcase {Petite}

It's been awhile since I've had any bookcases to spruce up and now I have several waiting to be worked on. They are all uniquely different: some are tall, some are wide, some are lighted, some have glass shelves and some have glass doors. What they all have in common is great bones and character!

This particular one was in great shape just lots of scratches and dings from years of tough love! Great size, clean lines and simple details are what make this piece so lovely. The fresh white ASCP {Annie Sloan Chalk Paint} finish helps highlight her character.

Distressed Beverage Cart

This beverage cart was a dreadful speckled gold finish when I rescued her from a dingy garage...ewww! I loaded her up and away we went. All the way home I just kept thinking how cute she was gonna be one she got a fresh coat of paint!

With pop up sides for extra serving space, locking wheels to secure her in place and a drawer for storage; this girl is perfect for a get together! I have visions of her displaying an assortment of ice cold beverages this spring...oh the fun she will have!

Bookshelf {Industrial Chic}

The back on this bookshelf was that really cheap, thin fiber board. Why the heck would someone build a solid wood bookcase and then use something so wimpy for the backer board?! Well, you got me. So I said, out with that flimsy old board!

As luck would have it, I happened to have a super cool piece of stamped tin on hand that fit the back of the shelf perfectly! {like it was meant to be}

I'm really liking the contrast of the shabby white wood with the metal, it's got a fun industrial chic feel:)

Shabby Dresser + Mirror Combo

This sweet dresser has the greatest chunky legs...and those legs are what drew me in! Complete with beautiful original hardware, a gentle patina on the mirror and smooth rolling casters, she's really a gem.

I painted this dresser with ASCP old white, distressed it just a bit and sealed it with clear wax.

A nice fresh piece ready to brighten up any room!

Warm Cream Serpentine Dresser

On just about any given day, I'll get a text message from my mom that says, 'Check your email'. This usually means that she's found something awesome on craigslist! That was the case with this little dresser. Over my lunch break, I headed out to grab this girl before someone else did! When I saw the condition...tons of peeling and chipping veneer and no hardware, I was a bit bummed out but the guy was willing to negotiate so I loaded her up. {so hard for me to pass up a solid piece of furniture no matter how much work it will need}

She has really great lines, cute curvy legs and perfect functioning drawers...what's not to love!

I filled and sanded the rough surfaces, applied a few coats of ASCP and updated the hardware with some adorable brass flower knobs... now she's ready for action in her new home!

Soft Blue + White Dresser Makeover

When I hauled this dresser home a few weeks ago, I knew immediately it needed to be painted a fresh springtime color!

 

Overall, it was in really good shape, as a matter a fact, I don't think I've ever seen a mirror on one of these dressers in better shape. All she needed was a fresh coat of paint to bring her back to life! I picked up some Duck Egg Blue ASCP and gave the entire dresser two coats. I then washed the drawers with Old White. A liberal distressing, a coat of clear wax and she's prettier then ever. The hardware had been replaced by the former owner and really didn't fit with the style so I updated all of it with some sweet brass pulls.

If you scroll to the bottom you'll see a few pictures of just the dresser to show how cute it is with or without the mirror. I have visions of this piece in so many places: girl's bedroom, lakeside cottage, guest room, hallway or even an entryway...where would you put it?

I took the mirror off and propped up a chalk board for a different look. That's what is so fun about these dressers with the detachable mirrors, you can change them up every now and again for a new look.

 

 She is really gorgeous from every angle!
