Duck Egg Buffet Refresh

You would never believe how filthy this buffet was when I got it. Layers upon layers of yuck! I spent quite a bit of time cleaning{see my TIP below on how to clean hardware}, stripping and reinforcing everything.

 

I have done so many dark colored buffets lately that I knew I wanted a lighter color, but not white or cream. Duck Egg seems to be one of my favorite Annie Sloan colors right now so I decided to give it a try. I think the soft blue, dark wax and warm brown stain compliment the piece really well.

Below are some more pictures and a tip on how to clean old dirty hardware.

 

HOW TO CLEAN HARDWARE

{not sure exactly where I ever learned this process but highly likely it came from Pinterest}

Place your old hardware in a saucepan with 2c of hot water, 1/4c of vinegar and 1tsp of salt. Bring to a rolling boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer for 20 minutes. You will be shocked at how much grime comes off. Carefully drain the water off and lightly scrub the hardware with some dish soap and a sponge. Viola!

Darling Blue Vanity

I imagine that when this vanity was new, some young lady was so excited to have it in her room. Probably all giggles and smiles!

Based on the condition that I found it in, it was USED heavily for a number of years. So, I did what I love to do, I rescued this girl from a dark and dumpy barn with plans to make her grand once again!

From frumpy...

to Fabulous!

I painted this piece in AS Duck Egg, I just love the soft blue color! I also lined the drawers for a little bonus and added charm.

 The mirror easily detaches so you can change up the way you use this girl.

 

 I updated the knobs with some vintage glass numbers and they match the adorable glass feet!

   

I used some coordinating fabric to line the drawers for a little special surprise.

 

 With or without the mirror, this is a super sweet piece.

Want a flower that holds its color for a long time? In Minnesota, the sedum blooms in August and last until the first frost for the most part. It's a hardy little bugger and a great flower for cut arrangements too.

Antique Chest of Drawers {Soft Duck Egg Blue + Rich Chocolate}

 

And so the story begins with this sweet chest of drawers. The top of this dresser was in amazing shape and needed to be left in its natural state to show how strong and solid she was throughout, but the soft blue body shows the depth of character I imagine this girl to have. Sappy I know, but honestly when I work on these pieces I can only imagine the stories they could tell...

Before

 The dark walnut stained top sets off the original hardware beautifully. The body is finished in ASCP Duck Egg {my new favorite}, lightly distressed and antiqued with clear and dark wax.

She has been transformed into a charming chest of drawers.

The detailing on the wood and hardware are so fitting for this lady.

 

 Sweet lines and soft curves, Oooo la la!

 

 More cute detailing on the bottom just in case it wasn't already ADORABLE enough.

And finally, they say beauty is only skin deep, but this girl is lovely through and through!
